Painless fine needles heated with a Chinese biolamp are used.
Follow up massage with a massator balances muscles post treatment.
During acupuncture nerve endings are stimulated and various hormones are released, e.g. endorphins and encephalins, which have a calming effect on the body and can stimulate healing. Acupuncture needles also work by releasing contracted muscles which are pressing on nerve endings and so causing pain.
There are also large nerve ganglia near the spinal cord which are thought to control some of the main body organs by activating the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. These can be needled as well as using other points. Massage of these points can also help to a lesser degree.
